The Munster Road Championships were held in Castlelyons yesterday in damp and dreary conditions. The women were up first with Fiona Santry and Eadaoin O Neill representing the club over the 4 mile route. Fiona took individual bronze, closing on Michelle Kenny all the way to the line. She was also part of the winning Cork team in the senior event. Feeling a little under the weather, Eadaoin fought her way around the course crossing the line in a respectable 19th place (14th in novice). Sean McGrath continued his rich vein of form to take the senior title for the second consecutive time. Sean looked unusually comfortable as he crossed the line ahead of Master’s rival Niall Shanahan. After losing contact with the leaders at the halfway stage, James McCarthy held off the challenge of Kenny Rogers to take the bronze. With a step down in distance Kevin O Leary dug deep in the final stages to hold off the fast finishing Mark Walsh finishing in 12th. Frank Hayes rounded out the scoring team in 24th with the club finishing 2nd to Leevale. Competing in the Masters event within the same race, Eric Meade finished 27th (4th over 50) and Denis McCarthy came home in 49th (4th over 55)
